Product, Design
We’re looking for a UX / UI Designer to join our small but mighty team. You’ll be working alongside our Product Designer Sofia, Product Manager Fabrizia, and our engineers to craft experiences that make people feel informed, safe, and empowered when they pay online.
This isn’t a role where you get stuck designing buttons all day. You’ll be involved in the full process — from understanding user needs, to brainstorming and sketching, to shipping designs and seeing how they perform in the wild.
We believe design is thinking, not just decoration — but we also care deeply about how things look and feel. We need someone who loves crafting beautiful, trustworthy screens, pays attention to every detail, and feels excited to slowly own the visual design and polish of our product.
You’ll get exposure to user research, data analysis, and how to connect design decisions to real business outcomes. We want someone who’s passionate about understanding the why behind designs, excited to brainstorm and problem-solve, and ready to suggest solutions on the spot.
Ultimately, we’re looking for a mobile and web customer journey UX and UI specialist with experience working with full stack engineering teams, and who sees their design as a vehicle that shapes an experience — someone who understands that the visual layer is how trust, clarity, and emotion are communicated.
Tunic Pay is building the Payment Context Protocol for all money movement—an intelligence layer that runs a real-time investigation on a payment, giving banks (and customers) rich context on the counterparty and situation so scams can be intercepted and genuine payments can flow.
At the core is an “investigation engine” that
(1) classifies the payment and plans the next best questions/steps,
(2) orchestrates a live, multi-source investigation (typically unstructured data that doesn’t live on clean APIs and has been enriched by fraud labels and feedback loops), and
(3) returns risk scoring plus the right intervention—either to break the spell for high-risk cases or to reduce ops burden.
Our protocol is increasingly powered by specialised AI agents tasked with optimising the consumer interaction, appropriately driving the investigation, and returning the right decision. Our approach to front-ends is highly modular /gottaCatchEmAll in order to power investigatory and experience flexibility, e.g., voice vs. chat or deterministic vs. not. And we need to deliver 24/7/365 uptime and security.
As our intelligence compounds, our ambition is scale: to overlay the Payment Context Protocol on as many payments as possible (3.6T payments annually) and make trusted, seamless transactions the default.
We are early & moving fast: we are working & have driven amazing results for some of the largest banks in the UK and increasingly globally🧤, we have an incredible team of cyber/fintech/AI veterans (backgrounds at Cloudflare, Elliptic, Monzo, Palantir, Quantexa, Wise etc), and were lucky to have our Series A pre-empted.
This is our opportunity to lose.

Has been working with Nicky and Nico since 2023. Ex-Palantir and Morgan Stanley, before that Imperial College. And here is a lil video about us as humans (feel free to watch @2x 🙈) 👇.
Don’t worry, you’ll get the traditional JD “hard skills” stuff in the next section (candidly largely lifted from ChatGPT 💀). But first, some thoughts on who would be successful at the role:
Bonus points:
Not got 100% of qualifications? Research shows that women and under-represented minorities are less likely to apply for a role if they do not have 100% of the requirements. We’re paying attention to this, so please feel free to apply regardless (<2mins) or send us a note on info@tunicpay.com if you’d like to discuss if there’s a fit.

This business needs creativity – we value well-channelled positivity (and the discomfort of ideation!) above intellectual scepticism.
Designer (15).jpeg
We prize flexibility and velocity. We don’t overpromise on a single strategy or career path. Nor do we value effort (sorry!). Instead, we are focused on outcomes + efficiency⚡

We tell it like it is. To our customers, our investors, ourselves. There is no room for ethical shortcuts, and we’re taking the decades-long view.

We’re serious about our work, but not about ourselves. We delight in bringing a little troll spirit.
We are seeking to make our interview as experiential as possible in order for both sides to get the most signal on what it would be like to work together. And our Tunic-set SLA is to respond to you within 3 business days of every stage. So, the steps are:
