We’re looking for a MBA Intern Swiss-army knife/ human accelerant based in London who wants to join our fintech startup at the ground floor and turbo-charge it. This role is a good fit for those who are excited about startups and contributing to the battle against scams and financial crime. If this sounds like a match for you, read on to learn more ⬇️

About Tunic Pay🎽

At Tunic Pay, we’re building the future of safe payments. Fraud costs UK consumers and businesses billions each year — and the payment experience is broken. We’re here to fix that, starting with trust during the transaction. Our product helps people know who they’re really paying, right at the point of payment — so that confidence, not fear, defines online payments. We started the business in November 2023 when we closed our Seed Round, and are already working with some of the biggest banks in the UK to make this a reality. 🧤 We believe in strong in-person collaboration so are requiring 3+ days a week jamming together in our London office (Farringdon).

About us 👋

Nicky (co-founder) previously co-founded Nova Credit, helping immigrants access credit. We’ve served millions of immigrants, raised over $130M (GC, Index, KPCB), built a team of 100+ people across three continents. Before that it was Stanford MBA, Bain, international development, and Cambridge. 🇬🇷-🇬🇧 married to🇰🇷-🇺🇲, parent, intermittent reader/runner, smack talker.

Nico (co-founder) spent the last 4 years as CEO of Casai, LatAm’s largest short-term rental operator with almost 2k apartments in 🇲🇽 and 🇧🇷 and hosted >100k guests. Previously met Nicky as Nova Credit’s first biz hire right after the seed round. Started career @ BCG after studying at Yale 🐶 & Oxford. Born in 🇵🇭 & grew up in Memphis, TN, the birthplace of rock & roll 🎸.

Cyrus (engineering lead) has experience across a wide range of industries and has built large-scale systems in a variety of sensitive contexts from banking 🏦 to defence 🛡️. Has been working with Nicky and Nico since 2023. Ex-Palantir and Morgan Stanley, before that Imperial College. Statistically most likely to be found walking my dog 🐕 and would often rather be climbing rocks 🧗‍♂️.

And here is a lil video about us as humans (feel free to watch @2x 🙈) 👇.

About you 🤓

Here are some thoughts on who would be successful at the role. We know we won’t be able to assess these from your resume, but our interview process will be designed around them:

  • A Raconteur/se: You love to tell stories and can structure compelling arguments across email, slides, and marketing, and customer meetings to lure more people to the business.
  • An Auto-didact: You may spend one day studying chargeback infrastructure and another exploring the best payroll solution for our business. You ingest new information fast and independently, and are able to synthesize it and make recommendations. You love using ChatGPT.
  • A Powerhouse: When there’s a will there’s a way. You are tenacious and creative.
  • A Radical Owner: Whether it’s fixing the printer or writing an investor update, you see these tasks as equally important — and you orient towards “what is going to help this business & people move faster”.
  • The hard skills we’ll value

As we look at profiles, here’s what we’ll be scanning for:

  • Broad business training: you’ve worked in strategy roles or BizOps at a consulting or tech or finance firm prior to now undertaking your MBA. You are super competent in excel, slides, stakeholder management.
  • Writing skills: you have done communications-heavy work before and write precisely and compellingly.
  • Not got 100% of qualifications? Research shows that women and under-represented minorities are less likely to apply for a role if they do not have 100% of the requirements. We’re paying attention to this, so please feel free to apply regardless if you’d like to discuss if there’s a fit.

    Stuff you’d do

This is “Special Projects” because honestly the scope will only get set on Day One. And then change again. And again. We expect it to be a mix of strategy and execution, with this type of activity:

  • GTM strategy: Identifying new verticals & markets opportunities for Tunic Pay. This will involve not only desktop research but also practical work — reaching out to prospects, pitching customers, developing proposals all the way down to implementation nuances. Hopefully you can help assess what areas are a good/bad fit!
  • Finance: We are professionalizing our business and need to be smarter about our resources/market. Prepare a financial model and strategic design for the company in the longterm.
  • All hands on deck customer success: You’re joining us in the middle of some big customer launches! So be prepared for the chaos, and also to get stuck in delighting our partners from day one.
  • Anything 🤷🏻‍♀️ : Really. This role is ultimately about flexibility, and the scope will likely look very different in even 3 days. (and again, the bullets above are just illustrative)
  • 🍃 Our values

    Designer (12).jpeg

    Yes, and.

This business needs creativity – we value well-channelled positivity (and the discomfort of ideation!) above intellectual scepticism.

    Designer (15).jpeg

Change, and speed, is the only constant.

We prize flexibility and velocity. We don’t overpromise on a single strategy or career path. Nor do we value effort (sorry!). Instead, we are focused on outcomes + efficiency⚡

    Memorable design.png

    Straight-shooters.

We tell it like it is. To our customers, our investors, ourselves. There is no room for ethical shortcuts, and we’re taking the decades-long view.

    Designer (8).jpeg

    Pranksters, not fraudsters.

We’re serious about our work, but not about ourselves. We delight in bringing a little troll spirit.

Last but not least, the interview process ⏳

We are seeking to make our interview as experiential as possible in order for both sides to get the most signal on what it would be like to work together. And our Tunic Pay-set SLA is to respond to you within 3 business days of every stage. So, the steps are:

  • Initial application (<2 mins): Send us an email to founders@tunicpay.com with your LinkedIn/ CV and anything you want to tell us about you.
  • Mutual screening call (25mins): A call with one of the founders. This is as much for you as it is for us!
  • Take-home presentation (45mins): You take on a piece of work and present & discuss your findings with us. Just as you would at Tunic Pay.
  • References and offer: Ideally over dinner!
