Why the role matters:

Every year, Pula delivers a range of operational activities, including farmer sensitization campaigns, farmer registration, farm boundary mapping, capacity building for clients and key stakeholders, and the implementation of Crop Cut Experiments (CCEs) - field surveys designed to accurately measure crop yields across different crops.

Working under the vision, guidance and direction of the Director of Field Operations, Pula is seeking the services of an experienced Field Associate Manager in Nigeria who will be responsible for overseeing and executing all the operational activities within the country. The ideal candidate will be results driven, good at people and operations, project management, and shifting comfortably between strategy and execution. The ideal candidate learns quickly, is resourceful and has experience managing teams and running a field project.

You will directly manage Senior Field Coordinators (SFCs) and Field Coordinators (FCs), while indirectly leading a team of Field Agents (FAs) responsible for day-to-day field data collection. Your responsibilities will include recruiting and developing high-performing teams, building team capacity, managing performance, and fostering a culture of accountability, operational excellence, and quality. As a senior client-facing leader, you will provide regular project updates, proactively address delivery and data quality issues, and ensure clear alignment with clients on project scope, methodology, timelines, and deliverables. You will also lead and/or directly implement farmer and stakeholder sensitization campaigns, ensuring effective engagement and high-quality execution in the field. Success in this role requires close cross-functional collaboration with Insurance Operations, Data, Technology, and Commercial teams to ensure seamless project delivery, continuous process improvement, and successful execution across the entire project lifecycle.

What you will be doing:

Project Delivery & Accountability: Lead project budget development, maintain accurate records of field expenses, and reconcile expenditures against approved budgets. Conduct field audits with insurers and support the planning and execution of insurance payout events. Assist in product experiments and launches when required.

Farmer & Stakeholder Sensitization: Plan, coordinate, and lead farmer and stakeholder sensitization campaigns, ensuring clear communication of project objectives, effective community engagement, and successful mobilization of farmers and key stakeholders to support project implementation.

People & Performance Management: Lead the recruitment, selection, onboarding, and training of Senior Field Coordinators, Field Coordinators, and Field Agents. Assign and schedule field teams, provide ongoing coaching and performance management, identify and develop top performers, and transparently address underperformance. Foster clear, consistent communication across all reporting lines and support product launches where required.

Quality Assurance & Process Improvement: Provide oversight of all field data collection and management activities through rigorous testing of data collection tools, proactive monitoring of operational dashboards, and timely resolution of data quality issues. Ensure all critical data quality concerns are investigated and addressed within 48 hours while driving continuous improvements to field processes and operational standards.

Client & Stakeholder Management: Serve as the primary Field Associate Manager contact for assigned projects, owning client communication on delivery performance, risks, data quality, and scope decisions. Lead client trainings, mobilization events, and workshops, and manage client escalations through to resolution to build strong, trust-based relationships and ensure high levels of client satisfaction.

The Right Candidate Will Have:

  • A BSc degree in Project Management, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness or a degree in Business/ management related field.
  • Experience with (5 years) and proven skills in working with clients, project teams, farmers, field teams and agro dealers.
  • Experience in data collection and data management.
  • Skills to interact with clients, farmers, field teams and agro dealers.
  • Ability to work independently in a multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional, and multicultural environment
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Intermediate Excel skills is an added advantage
  • Fluency in English and local languages.

  • Our team is deeply field based. We hire from the areas that we are working, rather than focusing on hiring only from capital cities or major metropolitan areas.
  • The individuals best suited for these positions are those who are comfortable speaking in relevant local languages and moving around rural areas.
  • Everyone needs to be able to work “on the go”: Staff are expected to call into conference calls multiple times a week, and to submit communications on email and other mediums throughout the week. While it is difficult to keep a phone and other devices charged while working in rural areas, the best employees plan their movements well enough to ensure being in contact at the right times.
