Why This Role Matters:
The Field Operations team delivers seasonal execution of farmer sensitization, registration, profiling/data services, client training, and Crop Cutting Experiments (CCE) - the critical yield measurement surveys that underpin index-based insurance payouts and product validation.
As a Data Analyst Intern, you will support the data side of field operations in your assigned area. Working under the guidance of the Associate Manager and Data team, you will assist in processing, validating, and quality-checking data collected from the field - ensuring records are accurate, complete, and submitted on time.
You will be involved in reviewing incoming field data, identifying errors or inconsistencies, escalating issues to supervisors, and supporting the preparation of data quality reports. Where your language skills are required, you will assist in interpreting and transcribing Ethiopian-language documents submitted by farmers as part of the registration process.
Your work will directly contribute to ensuring that accurate, verifiable farmer and yield data reaches our systems on time - playing a tangible role in enabling reliable insurance payouts and maintaining client trust.
This is not a passive, observational role - you will be expected to be hands-on, detail-oriented, and proactive. Strong interns who demonstrate accuracy, reliability, and initiative will have the opportunity to grow within the team.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Team Participation & Learning Shadow and support the data and field teams to understand end-to-end data workflows. Participate in onboarding sessions and team meetings to build familiarity with Pula's data standards and protocols. Assist with data submissions - ensuring records are complete, accurate, and correctly formatted before submission.
- Data Quality Checking Follow Pula's data quality Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to review collected records for accuracy, completeness, and compliance. Flag errors, duplicates, missing fields, or inconsistencies in submitted forms and escalate to the supervisor for resolution. Support back-checking and audit exercises on sampled records. Assist in reviewing geolocation data, photo records, and survey responses for correctness. Ensure all reviewed data is submitted to the data quality team within agreed timelines.
- Stakeholder & Operational Support Support coordination with field staff and internal teams by relaying data-related queries or discrepancies promptly. Assist in organising and maintaining digital records, equipment logs, and data submission trackers. Escalate any technical or data access issues to the appropriate team member without delay.
