About the Role

We are looking for a Database Administrator with 2-4 years of hands-on experience managing MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB databases on Linux. The ideal candidate is comfortable working close to the OS, writes shell scripts to automate routine DBA work, and is looking to grow into deeper automation and reliability engineering practices.


What Will You Do in this Role

• Install, configure, and maintain MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB instances in Linux environments (on-prem and/or cloud).
• Monitor database health and performance; tune queries, indexes, and configuration parameters.
• Design and manage backup and recovery strategies, including logical and physical backups and point-in-time recovery.
• Set up and maintain replication and high-availability configurations (MySQL replication/Group Replication, PostgreSQL streaming replication, MongoDB replica sets/sharding).
• Manage database users, roles, and access permissions in line with security best practices.
• Write and maintain shell (bash) scripts to automate backups, health checks, log rotation, alerting, and routine maintenance tasks.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production database incidents, including connectivity, locking, replication lag, and performance issues.
• Apply patches, version upgrades, and security hardening across database servers.
• Partner with development and DevOps teams on schema design, query optimization, and deployment automation.
• Maintain runbooks, SOPs, and an up-to-date inventory of database assets.
• Participate in an on-call rotation for production support.

What You’ll Need to be Successful in this Role

• 2-4 years of hands-on experience administering MySQL, PostgreSQL in production environments with strong knowledge on DB fundamentals.
• Strong working knowledge of Linux (Ubuntu/CentOS/RHEL) system administration.
• Proficiency in shell scripting (bash) to automate routine DBA tasks.
• Working knowledge of backup/restore tools: mysqldump/mysqlpump, pg_dump/pg_basebackup/pgBackRest, mongodump/mongorestore.
• Understanding / Exposure of replication and HA concepts across all three database platforms.
• Exposure to automation or configuration management tools such as Ansible, Cron-based orchestration, or similar.
• Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Prometheus/Grafana, Percona Monitoring and Management, Nagios, or equivalent.
• Solid understanding of SQL query tuning and performance troubleshooting.
• Awareness of database security practices: encryption at rest/in transit, access controls, auditing.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting mindset with good communication skills.
• Exposure on MongoDB as an additional advantage.

Good to Have

• Exposure to managed cloud databases (AWS RDS/Aurora, GCP Cloud SQL, Azure Database).
• Basic knowledge of containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Ansible).
• Relevant certifications (Oracle MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB Certified DBA).

Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
