About the Team
The Technology Department in GSMA is responsible for providing leadership and technology management for all GSMA Working Groups and Foundry/Project activities.
The Working Group team in the GSMA is responsible for management of GSMA Technology Working Groups, there are 10 permanent groups and up to 90 temporary or sub-groups at any one time.
The team engages and is represented internationally and is centred in the GSMA’s London office. It is a group of approximately 20 staff with a range of skills and technical subject matter expertise who work with senior management and a wide range of experts across the global mobile sector and other industries.
About Working Groups
Working Groups are the traditional “engines” of the GSMA, initially created to support the establishment of roaming and interworking services for 2G/GSM, they have since adapted their work and scope with every generational and service update.
They are continually evolving with both long-term and contemporary active members. The Working Groups have resource pools of subject matter experts from member organisations that provide huge value to GSMA’s activities. Topics engaged include all aspects of network standardisation, deployment and operation required to enable interoperability between network and service providers, and also affiliated industry segments.
In some cases, working groups publish specifications that are regarded as global standards (examples include eSIM, IPX, RCS and VoLTE), in other areas they take outputs from key standards and ensure interoperable solutions can be deployed. Key organisations that the team engages with are manufacturers and standards organisations. Activities include the publication of standards, working with industries served by mobile networks to find interoperable solutions and the provision of services that help achieve smooth interoperability. Working Groups collaborate and periodically meet to gather opinions, reach consensus, draft and approve specifications and other documents.
About the Role
Working Group Directors are responsible for the day-to-day operation of working groups working in partnership with the elected or appointed Chair from the GSMA membership. Typically, a Working Group Director would be responsible for one large working group or a number of smaller related groups. Ideally, Working Group Directors should have at least one area of expertise for which their expertise is globally recognised.

You will have previous experience within an engineering function within a Mobile Network Operator or equipment supplier. In addition, it is expected that you possess generalist skills across wider engineering disciplines to enable problem solving across all areas of network design and operation.
