About the Team
The Mobile for Development (M4D) team drives innovation in digital technology to reduce inequalities in our world. Singularly positioned at the intersection of the mobile ecosystem and the development sector, we stimulate digital innovation to deliver both sustainable business and large-scale socio-economic impact for the underserved.
The Mobile for Humanitarian Innovation (M4H) programme is funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) with a mission to accelerate the delivery and impact of digital humanitarian assistance. We have reached over 12 million people with improved access to and use of life-enhancing mobile-enabled services during humanitarian preparedness, response and recovery. We have achieved this by building a learning and research agenda to inform the future of digital humanitarian response, catalysing partnerships and innovation for new digital humanitarian services, advocating for enabling policy environments, monitoring and evaluating performance, disseminating insights and profiling achievements.
About the Role
- In this role, you will be pivotal in supporting GSMA Members' participation in the UN's Early Warnings for All Initiative (EW4All) and the Humanitarian Connectivity Charter (HCC).
- You will lead stakeholder engagement and management, facilitate in-country projects, and represent the programme at relevant industry events. Your responsibilities will include building and managing relationships with mobile network operators, catalysing strategic opportunities, and supporting initiatives that deliver impact aligned with the programme's core objectives
- In selected priority countries, you will work closely with Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) proactively connecting them to EW4All activities, including workshops & events, conveying the importance of involving the mobile industry in EW4All with government and humanitarian stakeholders.
- You will work closely with internal GSMA teams, MNOs, government agencies, and humanitarian organisations to ensure seamless collaboration and alignment of efforts. Your ability to navigate and manage these relationships will be crucial to the success of the programme.
- You will have the opportunity to contribute to the overall strategy of the M4H programme.
About You
- You will have demonstrable experience within the mobile industry and/or the humanitarian sector.
- You are and be adept at developing and managing relationships with various internal and external stakeholders, ensuring everyone is kept aware of relevant developments and consulted where needed.
- Your ability to navigate and manage these relationships will be crucial to the success of the programme. Additionally, experience in business development, project management, and product development will be beneficial to the role.
- You will have a proven track record of working across diverse stakeholders and facilitating results-based partnerships that deliver commercial and social impact.
- You will be naturally curious, able to think beyond business-as-usual scenarios, and your passion for leveraging digital solutions to tackle humanitarian challenges will drive your success in this role.
- You will be fluent and have compelling written and oral communication skills in English. Knowledge of another language will be a significant asset in this role.
- Excellent communication skills are essential, as you will need to express complex technical or commercial issues in plain language, contribute to research and blogs and represent GSMA in multiple stages.
- Partners and colleagues will span various regions the globe including Africa, Asia, Europe, the Caribbean and the Pacific Islands. Working well with colleagues including an understanding and appreciation for different cultures will be critical to driving success in the role.
Capabilities:
- Extensive experience in project coordination with the public and private sector; experience working with MNOs and humanitarian organisations preferred.
- Knowledge and background in mobile-enabled disaster preparedness, response and recovery; specifically mobile-enabled Early Warning Systems (EWS).
- Ability to manage multiple, competing timelines and prioritise accordingly.
- Experience with global coordination and collaborating with regional and country offices.
- Flexibility to accommodate a range of different time zones to speak with partners and colleagues across regions.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English is a must; fluency in another language is a benefit.
