For more information: https://www.worldbank.org/en/topic/infrastructure The INF VPU’s Metals and Minerals (M M) Department of the WBG (KIMDR) is responsible for the implementation of the WBG’s M M Global Strategy. A core focus of this strategy is the implementation of country partnerships (or compacts). Those partnerships’ key objective is to unlock the potential for economic transformation and development in mineral resources rich countries, by enhancing beneficiation in countries along minerals value chains (exploration, processing and refining). One of those units houses the Metals and Minerals, Policy and regulation (KIMPR). The objective of KIMPR is to provide technical advice and support on cutting-edge policy, analytical work, and investment lending preparation and implementation for government clients, often resulting in financing to support developing countries transform their natural resource wealth into sustainable, resilient, and inclusive economic development, consistent with climate mitigation goals. Duties and accountabilities: The selected candidate will be based in the World Bank’s country office in Lima, contributing to the design and implementation of World Bank Group operations and knowledge activities in the metals and minerals sector in Peru and across the entire Latin America and the Caribbean region (“LCR”). Under the close guidance and supervision of the KIMPR LCR regional focal point (Focal Point “FP”) selected candidate will: • Serve as the region-based senior specialist and contribute to the implementation of WBG’s M M Global Strategy (including Country Compacts) by providing expert policy and technical advice to governments in the wider region. • Together with a team on the ground and in Washington DC, contributing to supervision of the Peru - Competitiveness and Sustainability in the Strategic Minerals Sector Project (COMPASS). • Based on sound technical analysis, provide technical and policy advice to Governments on mineral exploration promotion, geological information improvement, mining project/sector development, mineral rights, permitting, mining regulation and environmental management. • Support KIMPR work with mining State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) which may include geological asset evaluation, exploration and resource-development strategies, enhancing investment readiness, and the structuring of partnerships with private investors. • Partner with other WBG teams on joint initiatives with industry, government, NGOs, and regional institutions to implement WBG’s broader mining infrastructure agenda. This includes working closely with WBG private-sector focused investment teams, on their opportunities in wider LCR. • Support the technical design and supervision of IBRD mining investment operations, including investment components, technical scope, cost estimates, implementation sequencing, technical indicators and quality assurance.
