Selection Criteria
The position will be based at World Bank headquarters in Washington, DC, for a 12-month term. Required qualifications and skills include:
Formal Requirements
• PhD (or close to completion) in economics, political economy, public policy, public administration, or a relevant discipline.
• At least 3 years of relevant professional experience working on data and analytics in government or a development organization.
Technical Requirements
• Strong analytical skills, including the ability to conduct research, identify solutions, and deliver work that produces meaningful change.
• Experience across key aspects of data science; a creative problem solver with strong skills in (i) research design and problem formulation; (ii) data acquisition, cleaning, curation, and management; (iii) data interpretation and analysis; and (iv) presenting and communicating results in an engaging and reproducible manner.
• Excellent working knowledge of modern statistics and scripting/programming languages such as R and Python (including relevant libraries).
• Technical knowledge of one or more development data domains (e.g., economic statistics).
• Experience and knowledge of methods of data collection, analysis, and dissemination, especially as they relate to public sector management.
• Language skills: English required. Fluency in another official World Bank language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Portuguese, Russian, or Spanish) would be an advantage.
Soft Skills
• Communication skills: strong writing and data presentation skills, including data visualization.
• Ability to produce quality work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Coordination skills, including experience in implementing complex tasks.
• Self-starter: ability to take the initiative and work independently.
• Strong teamwork orientation, good interpersonal skills, and a proven ability to work effectively with a range of clients and colleagues.
• Enthusiasm for, and commitment to, development work.
